Locked in
You know those runs that leave you feeling more energised than depleted? The ones that remind you why you show up, even when comfort is more appealing? That’s the kind of feelings I find on my long runs in preparation for Brighton Marathon 2026.
Not a sense of ease, but rather a joy found in the challenge.
Not always skipping along, but definitely running with purpose.
Brighton will be my first marathon, after 6 official halfs (7 by the time I get there), it’s always been a distance to dream about, put on the ‘one day’ list. That day is closer than ever, 48 days to be exact, and whilst the nerves are nerving, the excitement to show up with curiosity at what I can achieve is driving me to each training run.
Runna has been essential, as well as my own yoga practice for recovery and to balance out the very yang energy that running offers. Pouring time into looking after my joints, soothe aching muscles (why shoulders?) and dedicating myself to strength training will all get me to the start line, perhaps more mentally prepared than I’ve been in the past.
All for Alzheimer’s Society
My lovely Grandma has suffered with this cruel illness for 4-+ years, in that time a lot of memories made, some lost, but what never fades is the love she has for all of her family.
Whilst memory is an obstacle for her, the things that bring her joy are hearing about all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s adventures. When I talk to her about running, she lights up, calls me mad, but mostly brave and strong, so that’s what I’ll be bringing to the start line of my first ever marathon.
I’m running this race and fundraising for a future where Alzheimer’s doesn’t devastate lives and rob anyone of their precious memories.
One brave, strong (and mad) step at a time.
