Glow beyond the class

August is my birthday month, and I got so many cards and gifts that included sunflowers (my people know me well), as I’m drawn to them the way they are drawn to the sun itself. Over the summer, I’ve themed classes a lot around light and glow, focusing on first recognising our inner light, how to keep it shining and how movement helps us to tap into our needs.

I’ve been sequencing expansive ‘glow flows’, heart openers, hip openers and allowing the flow to unravel at its own pace. Trusting my creativity and own intuition to guide people towards release of tension built up in the body and mind. Creating this space for people to be nurtured, inspired or simply the invitation to slow down and rest.

I believe that our inner light and its ability to shine outwards is directly impacted by what we put in, what we consume not just through diet but through the people we have around us, the news, song lyrics, conversations and literature we take into our minds either deplete or charge us. I’m drawn more and more to the things that nourish, regulate and soothe my nervous system, so bringing this intention to class has been a natural integration.

I love to encourage students to take this reconnection to the breath and body out of class, using this touchpoint to recharge and continue to nurture this inner light far beyond the mat. I know from my own experience that effort and intention in one area of life often seeps into another, both positively and negatively, so like the sunflower, I turn my eyes and heart to the light as much as I can.
