Forward is a pace

All movement counts. Done is better than not. Even if your schedule doesn’t allow for the longer session you crave, you can get benefits from *changing* the plan, not scrapping the plan because it’s not ‘worth it’.

I find this particularly encouraging on weeks that leave few windows of opportunity for my own intentional movement. Amongst a busy teaching and working schedule, a little when I can, packed full of that intention, a celebration of what I CAN do, makes all the difference to my headspace, my day and my week overall.

Incremental little steps are better than no steps. Just taking out the pressure of distance, time and lofty goals that leave us with regret at the end of the week if we haven’t done all we planned saves the berating of ourselves, instead shifting the focus to what IS possible and all the times you DID choose intentional movement. You may not realise, but over time, these small steps signalling to your true self that you are more capable than you realise and more flexible mentally (physically just a bonus!).

Whether it’s a run you’re putting off because it won’t be ‘worth it’, ‘too slow’ or ‘too short’ for your Strava followers, a 15 minute yoga flow you might snooze though because it won’t make a difference, a swim so short it was barely a dip, know that all movement counts. If all you do is place a hand over your heart and breathe with intention, that’s sometimes all you need to reclaim your calm, your confidence and your motivation to go again.

Forward is a pace.
