Being while becoming
It can be hard not to feel like you’re on a continuous self-improvement hamster wheel. Every post and podcast (at least the ones that find me) follow a theme of striving to be better, work smarter, optimise and improve. And to be honest, I love the dopamine rush of committing to a challenge or new habit, following it through and achieving said goal. But there’s no reason that the discipline needed to commit to change has to be laborious or exhausting. I fully lean into the fact that I can always know more, about myself, change limiting narratives and step into new seasons with curiosity over criticism.
There may be tangible, tickable goals I’d like to reach, but the end goal isn’t a full stop, end of a project or specific outcome. To truly love being while becoming is to give yourself grace, listen to what you need whilst also digging deep on days that it doesn’t come so naturally. To love the work itself, to allow space for learning on the way to whatever goal is where the good stuff is.
I heard a quote that said ‘if you don’t change it, you choose it’, and this resonated so much as we approach the end of the year. Committing to strength training so that I’m in the best shape for the start of my first ever marathon training block, combined with yoga and swimming for active recovery, will make the next 6 months so special. Winter arc but make it enjoyable? Go on then.
